Registered Voters by Parish: Jefferson 100.0%
Municipalities/Communities Represented: Estelle, Harvey, Marrero, Woodmere
Economic: District 84 is mostly residential. It includes parts of Harvey, Crown Point and Marrero on the west bank of Jefferson Parish. Typically, residents either commute to work in New Orleans or to the Avondale Shipyards, or they work alongside the industrialized Harvey Canal, other West Bank industrial centers or in the largest employer in the district, the Jefferson Medical Center. Boomtown Casino is also a large employer, and for several years now the economy has been benefited by the new TPC Pete Dye golf course which was built in 2005 in Westwego and has been the showcase for the New Orleans Zurich Classic PGA golf tournament since then.
Social: District 84 is mostly middle class. New subdivisions on the southern side of the district provide good residential opportunities to people coming in from out-of-state who can easily mix with upwardly mobile natives. New Orleans provides many cultural opportunities, and fishing to the south is a popular pastime.
Political: Residents are generally conservative and are over 86% white. Registrations show that less than 30% are Republican, but the voters have supported GOP candidates in the past 15 years. Because of its location in southern Louisiana, hurricane protection, flooding and levee issues are large issues, particularly after Katrina and Rita and with all the strong residential growth. Safety and crime issues, before and after Katrina, are of prime concern to the voters.

- Patrick Connick ran unopposed for the seat that was vacated by N. J. Damico due to term limits. Connick, a lifelong resident of the Westbank of Jefferson Parish and a prosecuting attorney for fifteen years, believes that his broad legal, governmental and civic experience will stand him in good stead for this position.
- Although District 84 fared relatively well during the 2005 hurricanes, there were pockets of flooding. Look for Connick to prioritize heightened flood protection through higher and better fortified levees. He is also likely to address the affect of the influx of residents that has put a financial burden on the West Jefferson Medical Center.
- As a member of the House and Governmental Affairs Committee, he’ll play major role in the upcoming redistricting process. Connick will also be a major player on the House Civil Law and Procedure Committee, with a particular focus on discovery and procedure laws.
- Ethics reform, workforce development and crime prevention are also high on his list. He also wants to see a revitalization of the Barataria corridor which leads to Jean Lafitte National Park.
