Greene faced no opposition during the most recent election cycle, due largely to his aggressive campaigning – even during the off-season. The same persistence can be found inside the legislative chambers as well. Greene is jockeying for a lead role within the Baton Rouge legislative delegation and is slowly climbing the ranks of the House GOP Caucus.

Social: District 66 is a mixture of socioeconomic groups. It runs the gamut from working-class residents to middle-class professionals and some areas of affluence. There is a very small black population.
Political: This is a fundamentally conservative district, with significant concentrations of Republican registration. Consequently, GOP candidates run well, as can be seen by the strong showing of statewide and presidential candidates. There is very little middle ground here. Bobby Jindal dominated the district in both 2003 and 2007.

- Baton Rouge attorney Hunter Greene is an up-and-coming conservative in the House. During his first year in office back in 2005, Greene authored a landmark bill that, for the first time in Louisiana, defined specific ways to convict sexual predators prowling the Internet. The following year he sponsored a constitutional amendment to strengthen the qualifications needed for judges to run for office.
- Most recently, Greene’s policy focus shifted toward tax issues. He put forth legislation that eliminated the gift tax and repealed the inheritance tax. He also helped lead the initial charge to reverse the so-called Stelly Plan. Another major piece of legislation authored by Greene – and one that was eventually vetoed by former Gov. Kathleen Blanco – would have created a tax deduction for private school tuition.
- Greene has been able to capitalize on his legal expertise with a seat on the Judiciary Committee. But it’s his post on the House and Governmental Affairs Committee that promises to boost his political capital over the next term, especially since the panel will be charged with reapportionment. He has been appointed chair of Ways and Means for incoming term.
- Greene has also secured a concrete spot in negotiations over Baton Rouge’s infrastructure agenda with his position on the House Transportation, Highways and Public Works Committee.
