- Economic: District 25 is comprised of nearly all of Rapides Parish and an east portion of Vernon Parish, including Fort Polk, the U.S. Army’s premier training center. In addition to the city of Alexandria, it is the driving economic force of the district.
- Small businesses and governmental entities provide jobs and income, and Alexandria has burgeoning port on the Red River. The transformation of LSU-Alexandria into a four-year institution is finally providing the boost local were expecting and Pineville’s hospital and the nearby Louisiana College also provide jobs.
- Agriculture, primarily cotton, along with corn, soybeans, sugarcane, rice crops and cattle ranching are staples of the economy.
- Social: District 25 is predominantly white, with a small number of black residents. The people who do live here are mainly middle-class, blue-collar and hard-working. Still, there are a substantial number living below the poverty line. Several closures in recent decades have taken their toll and the district has a per capita income of roughly $16,088.
- Political: District 25 is a swing area when it comes to the politics of north and south Louisiana. Although the district traditionally has been solidly Democratic, Republican candidates have swept most of the statewide races in recent years. Bobby Jindal, for instance, dominated the district in 2007, alongside all of the other GOP statewide candidates from that cycle.

- Attorney Christopher J. Roy, Jr., a Democrat from Rapides Parish, replaces longtime Rep. Charlie DeWitt. Following his graduation from Southern Law School and a clerkship in the Ninth Judicial District Court, he established his own firm in Alexandria. He has successfully represented thousands of individuals and businesses during his career and was inducted into the Southern University Law Center Hall of Fame in 2007.
- Roy keeps a close eye on agribusiness and has pursued repealing the prohibition of interstate system travel by vehicles hauling certain crops. He has also pushed to change the prescriptive period for claiming workers' compensation benefits.
- Expect Roy to quickly find a niche in the lower chamber, especially on the issue of nursing home care. He is presently a member of the American Association for Justice in its nursing home litigation section and was formerly a member of the National Citizens Coalition for Nursing Home Reform. In fact, he has previously lobbied both the House and Senate on related policies.
- A sponsor of Ducks Unlimited and an avid hunter, he could also become a key player on issues coming out of the Natural Resources Committee, much like his predecessor was.
